You do not need a consultant in the room to identify where your business is losing revenue. What you need is a willingness to look at your own pipeline the way a prospect does and ask honest questions about what you find.

The following six-step audit will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Each step tests a different part of your revenue pipeline. Most businesses discover at least two or three meaningful leaks before they finish.

The 15-Minute Audit

Step 01 Call Your Own Business

This is the most revealing test you can run. Call after hours. Call during lunch. Call from a number your staff will not recognize.

  • Was the call answered or did it go to voicemail?
  • Is your voicemail greeting professional and clear?
  • Did anyone follow up within a reasonable window?
⚠ Most small businesses are surprised by what they find when they call themselves.
Step 02 Complete Your Own Contact Form

Submit a test inquiry through your website — the same form a new prospect would use. Then measure what actually happens:

  • How long until you receive a response?
  • Is the response personalized or generic?
  • Are the next steps clear, or does the conversation stall?

If response time exceeds 15 to 30 minutes during business hours, you likely have a meaningful leak at the top of your funnel.

Step 03 Review Your CRM

Open your CRM, spreadsheet, or whatever you use to track leads and ask three questions:

  • Can you quickly identify every new lead from the past 30 days?
  • Do you know exactly where each lead sits in the process?
  • Can you see which leads have gone cold without follow-up?

If the answer to any of those is "no" or "kind of," you have a tracking leak, and it is costing you visibility over your own pipeline.

Step 04 Spot-Check Recent Follow-Up

Pull five leads from the past two weeks and trace what happened to each one. Ask whether each received:

  • A phone call
  • An email
  • A text message
  • A scheduled follow-up task or reminder

If any lead went cold after a single contact attempt or received no follow-up at all, that is not a sales problem. That is a systems problem.

Step 05 Examine Website Calls-to-Action

Open your homepage as if you have never seen it before. Within 10 seconds, can a visitor answer these three questions?

  • What does this business do?
  • Who does it help?
  • How do I contact them right now?

If any of these answers require scrolling, searching, or guessing, your site is generating website leaks before a prospect ever makes contact.

Step 06 Test Your Appointment Scheduling Process

Attempt to book an appointment on your own website exactly as a new prospect would. Count every step required. Every click, every form field, and every back-and-forth exchange creates friction. Friction kills conversions.

  • How many steps does it take to confirm an appointment?
  • Is the process available 24/7 without requiring a phone call?
  • Does the prospect receive an automated confirmation?

The Final Question

If 100 new leads entered your pipeline tomorrow, would every single one receive consistent, timely follow-up without you manually managing each one?

If the answer is "no," you have identified a leak.

The goal of this audit is not to feel good about your systems. It is to find what is broken before it costs you another month of revenue.

If this 15-minute audit surfaced even one clear gap, the Lead Leak Assessment will help you go deeper by scoring your pipeline across six categories and showing you exactly where to focus first.
