What must remain human when machines can do more?
InnerShift360 helps people, organizations, and institutions add the systems without losing the humanity. Two lanes carry the work: ReHuman, the scholarly initiative — the cutting edge — and InnerShift360, the applied backbone: books, chaplaincy, whole-life assessments, and speaking.
Two lanes. One conviction.
Both begin from one conviction: you can add the systems without losing the humanity. Choose the door that fits what you are carrying today.
The scholarly initiative on personhood, answerability, formation, and presence in an age of intelligent machines. Newly launched. Built for universities, faculty, ethics bodies, and organizational leaders navigating AI.

Your institution may not have an AI problem. It may have a human question.
Every AI deployment silently answers four older questions institutions rarely stop to ask. When efficiency decides them by default, the account of the human that remains is one no institution would have written on purpose.
ReHuman gives leaders a way to see what their systems already assume — before the machine's answer becomes the institution's answer.
ReHuman.
An interdisciplinary scholarly and applied initiative examining what artificial intelligence reveals about human personhood, answerability, formation, presence, and institutional life. The flagship work of InnerShift360.
Personhood
Are people being reduced to their representations?
When institutional decisions rely on profiles, predictions, and categories, representations can begin to stand in for the persons they only partially describe.
Answerability
Who remains responsible for consequential decisions?
When a decision is produced by a system, someone must still bear its weight. Diffusion of authorship without diffusion of accountability leaves harm without a home.
Formation
Are people becoming capable, or merely producing acceptable outputs?
Acceptable performance becomes the ceiling, while transfer, adaptive application, and genuine capacity become harder to see.
Presence
Where does relationship itself carry consequential value?
Some encounters carry consequential value precisely because a person is there. Naming those thresholds before routine adoption settles them by default is now leadership work.
The ReHuman Formation Index.
A pilot diagnostic of perceived institutional practice, built to surface the human questions raised as AI is considered, adopted, or expanded.

Four distinct domains · One participant's informed perception
The RFI gathers one participant's informed perception of institutional practice across four distinct domains. It does not produce an institution-level assessment, ranking, or definitive judgment.
Institutional pilot engagements may include a facilitated debrief and, where useful, a working session with faculty, executive leaders, or an ethics body.
Six routes into the work.
Keynotes & Invited Lectures
For universities, professional societies, and convenings framing the human questions of AI.
Faculty & Leadership Workshops
Half-day and multi-day formats for deans, department chairs, and executive teams.
Institutional AI-Ethics Conversations
Facilitated sessions that name what a given deployment assumes about persons — before it decides.
RFI Pilot Conversations
Structured pilot with facilitated debrief; suited to institutions ready to look honestly at what their AI posture assumes.
Research & Scholarly Collaboration
Joint papers, working groups, and cross-institutional projects on personhood, formation, and answerability.
Courses, Panels & Consulting
Semester-length teaching, conference panels, and standing advisory relationships.

A practitioner-scholar at an unusual crossing.
Dr. James R. Andrews writes and works at the crossing of Christian ethics, institutional life, and the technologies now reshaping both. That combination is not incidental — it is what holds ReHuman and InnerShift360 together in one voice: philosophical depth, institutional responsibility, formation, and applied leadership.
Ideas matter differently when you have to carry them into a room.
Formation happens in the room.
ReHuman asks where relationship itself carries consequential value. This field moment shows the question before it becomes theory: a leader reading the room, responding to people, adjusting in real time, and carrying responsibility for what happens next.
Some forms of value require someone to show up.
Prayer Is Like Bacon
A field moment from Army Reserve chaplaincy: teaching, formation, relationship, and presence in an actual room.
The work behind the framework.
The Mirror in the Machine: Compliance Discipleship and the Limits of Artificial Imitation
Manuscript under review with Practical Theology. Explores what discipleship becomes when institutions optimize for the appearance of formation and what grace requires that machines cannot supply.
The ReHuman Brief
A short scholarly introduction to the four domains and the case for making institutional accounts of the human being explicit before efficiency decides them.
The RFI Framework: A Pilot Instrument
Framework overview covering instrument design, the four domains, use in pilot conversations, and the scholarly discussion the RFI is built to open.
AI adoption always carries an account of the human being. Let us make that account explicit before efficiency decides it for us.
Whether you are shaping a faculty conversation, opening a ReHuman pilot, booking a keynote, requesting a book talk, or exploring the applied work of InnerShift360 — this is where the conversation begins.
