The work of Dr. James R. Andrews · Two lanes, one conviction

What must remain human when machines can do more?

InnerShift360 helps people, organizations, and institutions add the systems without losing the humanity. Two lanes carry the work: ReHuman, the scholarly initiative — the cutting edge — and InnerShift360, the applied backbone: books, chaplaincy, whole-life assessments, and speaking.

How to Get In

Two lanes. One conviction.

Both begin from one conviction: you can add the systems without losing the humanity. Choose the door that fits what you are carrying today.

Imitation wears the clothes. Incarnation bears the weight.

The Problem · Four Older Questions

Your institution may not have an AI problem. It may have a human question.

Every AI deployment silently answers four older questions institutions rarely stop to ask. When efficiency decides them by default, the account of the human that remains is one no institution would have written on purpose.

ReHuman gives leaders a way to see what their systems already assume — before the machine's answer becomes the institution's answer.

The Cutting Edge · Scholarly Initiative

ReHuman.

An interdisciplinary scholarly and applied initiative examining what artificial intelligence reveals about human personhood, answerability, formation, presence, and institutional life. The flagship work of InnerShift360.

The Four Domains
01
Personhood

Personhood

Are people being reduced to their representations?

When institutional decisions rely on profiles, predictions, and categories, representations can begin to stand in for the persons they only partially describe.

02
Answerability

Answerability

Who remains responsible for consequential decisions?

When a decision is produced by a system, someone must still bear its weight. Diffusion of authorship without diffusion of accountability leaves harm without a home.

03
Formation

Formation

Are people becoming capable, or merely producing acceptable outputs?

Acceptable performance becomes the ceiling, while transfer, adaptive application, and genuine capacity become harder to see.

04
Presence

Presence

Where does relationship itself carry consequential value?

Some encounters carry consequential value precisely because a person is there. Naming those thresholds before routine adoption settles them by default is now leadership work.

The Pilot Instrument

The ReHuman Formation Index.

A pilot diagnostic of perceived institutional practice, built to surface the human questions raised as AI is considered, adopted, or expanded.

RFI · Pilot Instrument
04
  • Personhood
  • Answerability
  • Formation
  • Presence

Four distinct domains · One participant's informed perception

The RFI gathers one participant's informed perception of institutional practice across four distinct domains. It does not produce an institution-level assessment, ranking, or definitive judgment.

Pilot instrument. The RFI is a diagnostic of perceived practice and a scholarly conversation starter — not a validated institution-level assessment or ranking. Its value is in the questions it brings into the room.

Institutional pilot engagements may include a facilitated debrief and, where useful, a working session with faculty, executive leaders, or an ethics body.

The Backbone · Applied Work

InnerShift360.

The comprehensive body of work that carries the everyday call — build the inner life, fix the outer systems, and add the systems without losing the humanity. Books, chaplaincy, whole-life assessments, and speaking.

The Invitation

AI adoption always carries an account of the human being. Let us make that account explicit before efficiency decides it for us.

Whether you are shaping a faculty conversation, opening a ReHuman pilot, booking a keynote, requesting a book talk, or exploring the applied work of InnerShift360 — this is where the conversation begins.
